Ken’s personal path to training:
In 2013 I really started to look at my climbing. I looked at where I had been with my climbing, where I currently was, and most importantly- where I wanted to go. I realized I had been on a climbing plateau for years; my progression had stopped and I wanted to know why.
The root of my problem was glaringly simple: I was continually going to the gym without any structure or knowledge on how to improve.
Diving right in, I read book after book and reached out to trainers and climbers to see what they were doing to improve. After some trial and error, I found that the way to progress was simples: focused sessions coupled with simple but effective training programs and supplemental exercises.
Implementing focused training sessions into your climbing will make you stronger, improve your climbing, and help keep you free of injury, regardless of age or ability.
I decided to become a personal trainer/coach because I was continually seeing climbers make the same mistakes I had in the past, and I knew I could help them solve their frustrations.
My love for climbing has instilled in me a passion for helping people reach their full potential and I look forward to helping you invest in your climbing future today!
No one is more psyched to see and support the progress of others’ climbing than Ken. He puts care and in-depth knowledge into crafting a training program that is effective, not just for short-term gains but for long-term growth and injury-prevention. I’ve been training for a year and a half, using a program that Ken has consistently molded to fit my needs, and the progress I’ve seen during that time surpasses what I ever thought myself capable of.
Ken’s approach to training programs are new, detailed, and tailored to me specifically. Throughout the training with Ken I found myself getting stronger. Ken had assured me that I had the ability to get stronger, all I needed to do was set my intentions with a goal in mind and stick to the program. Ken told me, “Esteban from today on, I am your coach and that is something I take very seriously and I deeply care about your progression.”
What makes Ken a quality personal trainer is his integrative approach that focuses on more than just what makes you climb harder climbs. While he can help you identify your weaknesses and give you a specific action-plan to meet your climbing objectives, what helped me most was learning to develop a smart and sustainable attitude towards training – one where I learned how to train efficiently and, more importantly, understood how to balance consistency with having fun. Not only did I become physically stronger working with Ken, I also learned how to approach goals and challenges more confidently and rationally, both inside and outside of climbing. Ken is a great teacher and a standup guy. For anyone who is looking to take their climbing game to the next level, Ken is the trainer for you.
I have been training with Ken for the last 18 months, through which I have experienced consistent gains in strength that I did not think possible after 15+ years of climbing. Ken is very knowledgeable in the science of strength training for rock climbing, and he couples this with an attentiveness towards injury prevention and longevity. Ken’s training programs are effective and sustainable, and I look forward to working with him for many years to come.
