Meet Our Team
Youth Instructor / Front Desk
Who are you? Where are you from? What do you do in the gym?
Hi there!! My name is Aidan Pence, and I am from Boulder Colorado. I mostly work at the front desk, but you might also see me walking around as a community guide or coaching.
When not a Whetstone, where might we find you?
When I am not at Whetstone, you can find me at CSU in the engineering building, or outside wandering to get some fresh air.
A favorite non-climbing activity?
At this point in my life, my favorite non-climbing task is playing video games, but only to procrastinate school of course!
Have any projects? Climbing or Non-Climbing?
Currently, finishing school is my main “project”, as for a climbing related project, I hope to send my first double-digit boulder outside sometime soon.
How did you get involved with the gym?
I have worked at other climbing gyms in the past, and Whetstone caught my eye when I came to Foco for school. I climbed here once and then they couldn’t get rid of me.
What’s a low-key flex you can boast about?
I’m suspiciously good at bowling.
How does climbing foster community?
Climbing helps to bring people together over the goal to climb rocks, it is a simple way to meet new people to have fun and recreate with. It is a perfect way to make people feel included no matter the skill level.
What has climbing taught you?
Climbing has taught me many things, but I think the biggest thing that the sport has taught me has to be patience. After many years of climbing, patience is the governing factor when it comes to send goes, workouts, and rehabilitation for injuries, but I think that it’s a good thing.
