Esteban Montaño
Routesetter / Front Desk Supervisor
Who are you? Where are you from? What do you do in the gym?
My name is Esteban Montano and I hail from Oxnard California but moved here from northern Idaho, where I lived for 8 years and fell in love with climbing.
When not a Whetstone, where might we find you?
You can find me under a smaller piece of rock near the base of a mountain, playing frisbee golf and or at a local brewery.
A favorite non-climbing activity?
Frisbee Golf
What are you most stoked about these days?
I am most stoked at the weather getting nicer and for alpine bouldering season to start!
Have any projects? Climbing or Non-Climbing?
Goal for this year is to climb as much as possible outside and hopefully send my first V11.
How did you get involved with the gym?
I wanted to dive deeper into the climbing industry, so once I saw an opening here at Whetstone, I jumped on the opportunity.
Best thing about FoCo / NoCo:
Access to so many activities! You can be up and down a mountain, have time for a swim and still grab a beer afterwards.
What’s a low-key flex you can boast about?
I can speak Spanish and Japanese.
Favorite spot to recreate in:
The Poudre Canyon
How does climbing foster community?
I believe that climbing more than many other sports allows for a very broad range of people to come together to share the experience of climbing. No matter who you are or where you came from, you can climb together.
What has climbing taught you?
What I have been feeling most lately is perseverance.
Climbing in five words... Go!
There is something for everybody.
Favorite climbing style?
Wide Compression
